Ductless mini split installation in Lock Haven, PA usually comes down to what your house doesn't have. No ductwork, nowhere to put ductwork, or a room the furnace never really reached. A mini-split gets around all of it: a head on the wall inside, a condenser outside, and a hole about three inches across between them. How the job runs
- Walk the space and size it. I look at the room, the insulation, how much glass is on the sunny side, and where a head can go so the air actually reaches you. The condenser spot and the line-set route get settled before anything is ordered.
- Set the plate and drill through. The mounting plate goes into framing, level. The line-set penetration is core-drilled pitched downward so condensate drains out of the wall instead of back into it.
- Hang the condenser and run the line set. Leveled wall brackets, vibration pads, full service clearances, and enough height off the ground that defrost runoff clears in winter. The copper gets cut, flared, insulated, and torqued to the manufacturer's spec.
- Wire it. Dedicated 230V circuit, weatherproof disconnect at the unit, indoor-to-outdoor control wiring per the diagram, grounded properly.
- Prove it's tight before any refrigerant moves. Nitrogen up to the manufacturer's test pressure and held, every flare checked with bubble solution and an electronic leak detector. Then a deep vacuum below 500 microns and a standing decay test on the micron gauge.
- Charge and commission. Factory charge released, extra R410A weighed in if the line-set length calls for it, then I run it in heat and in cool, check operating pressures and temperature split, confirm condensate flow, set up the Wi-Fi, and show you how to run the thing.

Common questions
Do mini splits actually work in cold weather in central PA?
Yes. The system I installed in Lock Haven is a Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat unit rated to keep producing heat down to -13°F, which is colder than a normal Clinton County winter gets. Older mini-splits earned that bad reputation honestly, but a cold-climate model is a different machine. If your neighbor's fifteen-year-old unit quit in January, that isn't what I'd be putting in your house.
Can I put a mini split in a house with no ductwork?
That's the main reason people call me. A mini-split needs a spot on an exterior wall for the indoor head, a place outside for the condenser, and a hole about three inches across between them. No trunk lines, no returns, no ripping open ceilings to chase duct runs. Plenty of older houses around here have nowhere to put ductwork, and this is the way around that.
Will you install a mini split in a mobile home?
Yes, and I know some shops won't. A manufactured home needs the wall penetration and the condenser mounting handled with that wall construction in mind, and the power has to come off a properly sized dedicated circuit. Plan it before you drill and it's a straightforward day. I quote a mobile home the same way I quote any other single-zone install.
Do you install mini splits outside Lock Haven?
Yes. Mill Hall, Avis, Loganton, Beech Creek, Jersey Shore, and the rest of Clinton County plus the central-PA towns just outside it. Mileage doesn't change how I price a job, and it doesn't change the install: same nitrogen test, same deep vacuum, same commissioning whether the house is six blocks away or thirty minutes out. If you're not sure your town is in range, ask before you go any further and you'll have an answer that day.
How many mini split heads do I need?
Depends on the layout more than the square footage. One head can carry a large open room; the Lock Haven job I did was a single 18,000 BTU head serving one big space year-round. Closed-off bedrooms down a hallway won't get much from a head in the living room, so those generally need their own. I'll tell you which situation you're in once I see it.
My mini split stopped heating. Do I need a new one?
Maybe not. I'm EPA 608 Universal certified, so I can put gauges on it and find out whether it's low on refrigerant, leaking at a flare, running a bad defrost sensor, or sitting on a failed board. A fair number of these come down to one cheap part and an hour of labor. You'll get the diagnosis and the part number before anybody says the word replacement.
