Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump Install

Lock Haven, PA · 2024

Single-zone Mitsubishi MSZ-FS18NA "Designer Series" system — an 18,000 BTU Hyper-Heating (H2i) heat pump rated 21 SEER2 that keeps making heat down to -13°F. One quiet, efficient unit to heat and cool a large room year-round.

How the job was done

  1. Sizing & placement — confirmed the 18,000 BTU unit suited the space; chose indoor-head and outdoor-condenser locations for airflow, clearances, and a clean line-set route.
  2. Indoor head — leveled and secured the wall mounting plate to framing; core-drilled the line-set penetration pitched downward for condensate drainage.
  3. Outdoor condenser — set on leveled wall brackets with vibration pads and full service clearances, elevated for winter defrost runoff on the hyper-heat unit.
  4. Line set & connections — routed and insulated the refrigerant lines; cut and flared the copper, then torqued the flare nuts to Mitsubishi spec.
  5. Electrical — dedicated 230V circuit, weatherproof disconnect at the unit, and indoor-to-outdoor control wiring per the diagram, properly grounded.
  6. Condensate — drain run with continuous downward pitch; flow confirmed.
  7. Pressure / leak test — pressurized with dry nitrogen to the manufacturer test pressure and held it, checking every flare with bubble solution and an electronic leak detector; the gauge held with zero drop.
  8. Evacuation — recovered the nitrogen and pulled the system into a deep vacuum below 500 microns, then ran a standing micron-gauge decay test to prove it leak-free and moisture-free.
  9. Charge — released the factory charge, weighing in additional R410A for line-set length where needed.
  10. Commissioning — started in heating and cooling, verified operating pressures, temperature split, and condensate flow; set up the remote / Kumo Cloud Wi-Fi; walked the homeowner through operation.
